Part-Time Plumber

Job Description:

The Town of Dedham/Public School Facilities is seeking an experienced Journeyman or Master Plumber to be part of the Facilities Department.  The selected candidate will provide maintenance and repair work on town and school buildings, facilities and equipment. Position is subject to CORI and Fingerprinting due to working in the school environment.

Schedule:

5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.; 3-4 nights or 16 hours per week maximum

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assemble, install, maintain, and pressure test all pipes, fittings, and fixtures of heating, water, drainage, sprinkler, and gas systems according to specifications and plumbing codes.

  2. Locate and mark positions for connections and fixtures.

  3. Plan, install, repair, service and test for leaks all pipes, fittings, valves, fixtures, and plumbing system equipment, including sinks, commodes, water heaters, etc.; install supports and hangers for pipe, fixtures and equipment.

  4. Read blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine the layout of plumbing systems, water supply networks and waste and drainage systems.

  5. Repair dishwashers and kitchen equipment that incorporate gas and/or water consumption.

  6. Update maintenance work orders as to status and completion time and materials.

  7. Operate a variety of equipment and machines including drill, saw, grinder, sander, painting equipment and other hand and power tools; Maintain inventory of tools.

  8. Maintain department areas in a safe, clean and orderly condition.

  9. Work must meet all building codes, installation requirements and relevant legislation.

  10. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.

Key Requirements:

  1. Maintain a valid MA Driver’s license and MA Plumber's license.

  2. Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Journeyman or Master plumber in a commercial or school environment. Knowledge of local and state regulatory plumbing codes and requirements.

  3. Broad knowledge in electrical, carpentry and heating/air conditioning maintenance trades is preferred.

  4. Must be able to work alone and safely use power tools, ladders, lifts and other means as needed.

  5. Must be comfortable working in confined spaces and on/around heights such as building roofs.

  6. Must be able to read prints and follow verbal and written instructions.

  7. Must be available to respond to emergencies as needed and required evenings and weekends.

  8. Must be able to work independently and in cooperation with building principals, supervisors and facilities staff on a daily basis.
