Featured August Programs at the Dedham Senior Center

The Dedham Council on Aging has numerous events scheduled for the end of summer! Below you will find a list of the upcoming programs. These programs are considered featured as they do not occur weekly or monthly. For weekly and monthly events checkout our newsletter or give us a call. Please pay attention to the location of each event as some are off site. Theater Party

Monday, August 6 @ 9:30am

Dedham Community Theatre, 580 High Street- Dedham Square

Seniors* of Dedham and Westwood are kindly invited by State Representative Paul McMurtry for a special event at the  Dedham Community Theatre! Join us in an exclusive free showing of “Moonstruck” featuring: Cher and Nicholas Cage.  Perfect for a fun break from the hot summer weather!  Popcorn, laughs and great company. Movie followed by lunch in the Square on your own. *seniors age 55 and up 

Coffee with our First Responders

Tuesday, August 7 @ 1:30pm

Dedham Senior Center, 735 Washington Street

Come meet your first responders and hear about what happens when you call 911. What equipment do they carry along with them? Ask all your questions!

Trip to Plymouth

Monday, August 13 @ 9:00am. $5.00 per person

Trip leaves from the Dedham Senior Center, 735 Washington Street 

Plymouth is known as “America’s Hometown” due to being the site of the colony founded in 1620 by the Pilgrims. This was where New England was first established. Join us on this trip to explore a lovely historic town. Enjoy lunch on your own.

Lower Back Pain and Sciatica Workshop

Tuesday, August 14 @ 12:00pm. Lunch is being provided!

Dedham Senior Center, 735 Washington Street

Please join APR Physical Therapy and David Fleischman MPT as we learn the most common causes of low back pain and sciatica. We’ll discuss how a problem in your back can cause pain, numbness and tingling in your leg. We’ll also talk about successful treatments and what permanent relief looks like without the side effects of medications, injections or surgery. APR Physical Therapy will be providing lunch so please make sure you RSVP!

Learn about the REAL ID Law

Monday, August 20 @ 10:30am. Coffee and refreshments will be provided!

Dedham Senior Center, 735 Washington Street

Come join us as we learn from members of AAA about the REAL ID law! This law was implemented in Massachusetts back in March and AAA is here to discuss it with our community. The REAL ID is a new federal licensing mandate, meaning new requirements! AAA representatives will also discuss common driving issues related to seniors, issues with mobility, transpiration and new regulations that impact seniors. Coffee and refreshments will be provided.

PART ONE: LINCOLN AND THE ELECTION OF 1860 (Beginning of a three part series on Lincoln) Convinced that Lincoln's election would result in a Republican effort to abolish slavery, Southern fire-eaters from the lower South voted to secede from the Union and to form the Confederate States of America.  Lincoln, in his inaugural address, expressed confidence that the crisis would pass and that the Union would be preserved when secessionists were "again touched...by the better angels of our nature." Lunch is being provided please make sure you RSVP!

43rd Annual Senior Citizens BBQ

Sunday, August 26. Doors open at 9:45am

84 Eastern Ave, Dedham

This free BBQ is hosted by the U.S.S Jacob Jones V.F.W Post 2017. Bingo is 10:00am012:00pm- coffee bagels and pastries will be served. Lunch will be begin at 1:15pm- BBQ chicken, roasted potatoes, and green beans will be served. Come join the dancing fun with door prizes and raffles! Please pick up your ticket at the Dedham Senior Center, 735 Washington Street.
