September: Featured Programs at the Dedham Senior Center

The Dedham Council on Aging has numerous events scheduled for the beginning of fall! Below you will find a list of the upcoming programs, some are new! Please pay attention to the location of each event as some are off site. All programs below are free of charge unless stated otherwise. Please call the COA for more info and to sign up: 781-326-1650 ext. 3. Come join the fun!

New Program: Walking Club

The session will run from: Thursday September 13- Thursday November 1
Class begins at 1:30pm and will meet at Gonzalez Field, 50 Providence Hwy. 
Parking and the field is located directly next to Staples.

We  are very exited to announce a new fitness program, a Walking Club! The class will be led by well-known and experienced Dedham instructor, Nora Brown. The session will run for 8 weeks and will meet on Thursdays. All levels of ability are welcome. There will be 2 different walking options. One will be approximately 20 minutes, plus warm-ups. The second will be approximately 40 minutes, plus warm ups. If you have any questions about location or specific details please call the senior center. The walking club is free of charge, but you must sign up in advance for the session with Jackie, 781-326-1650 ext. 3

Clam Box Trip

Join us as we say goodbye to summer at Wollaston Beach, the Clam Box!  Enjoy the famous clams. In addition to clams, they offer a large selection of seafood but also a variety of chicken, steak trips, burger, hot dogs and more!

Christmas Tree Shop Trip
Monday, September 17. $2.00 per person
Pick up your house

You’ll have 1.5 hours to shop at Christmas Tree Shops. Afterwards you will go to China Town Restaurant, Stoughton, for lunch, payment on your own.

Topic: PART TWO: 1863 LINCOLN’S PIVOTAL YEAR
The year 1863 marked three seminal events midway through the Civil war.  In January, Lincoln using his powers as Commander-in-Chief issued the Emancipation Proclamation.  Union soldiers now marched into the Confederacy as armies of liberation as well as to restore the Union.  In July, the battle of Gettysburg, the single largest battle ever fought in the Western Hemisphere, was fought in Pennsylvania.  At the end of the year, Lincoln revealed his first thoughts on Reconstruction. Lunch is being provided please make sure you RSVP!

New Program: Create with Kasi!

September is bringing you a new art class offering at the Dedham Senior Center. We are very excited for Kasi Mammone to join our team once a month to create all types of artistic projects with you! Art has been a passion throughout Kasi’s life. She’s studied all different art forms and is very excited to share these with you. Please assist us in welcoming Kasi and join her as she helps you create a beautiful floral arrangement out of paper. During the class she will have a few different floral paper collage options that you’ll be free to explore and create. She hopes to see you there! 

Flu Clinic

The Dedham Public Health Nurse, Jessica Tracy will be offering 3 free flu clinics for seniors 65+. If you have any questions regarding the flu shot please call Jessica Tracy, 781-751-9220. Please call the Senior Center to reserve your appointment, 781-326-1650 ext.3.

Rotator Cuff and Shoulder Pain Workshop

Tuesday, September 25 @ 12:00. Lunch is being provided!

APR Physical Therapy and David Fleischman, MPT is back this month as we learn what’s causing your shoulder pain! We will review the anatomy of the shoulder, discuss the most common diagnosis of shoulder pain and most importantly, teach you about what successful treatment and relief from shoulder pain looks and feels like without the side effects of medications, injections or surgery. You will also learn some simple exercises that you can perform at home to maintain your overall shoulder health. Please dress comfortably. Lunch is being provided please make sure you RSVP!
