Created by a vote of Town Meeting in April 2004, the Open Space & Recreation Committee conducts continuous review and oversight of the Open Space Plan for the Town. Its duties include:
- Keeping the Town current with State requirements for open space or recreation plans and with opportunities and eligibility for State funding;
- Reviewing and revising a Five-Year Action Plan for open space preservation and recreational needs;
- Increasing public awareness and support of open or recreational space through education, advocacy, and promotion of land trusts, conservation, or agricultural restrictions for suitable properties; and
- Submitting an annual report to the Board of Selectmen
The Open Space & Recreation Committee has five members who are appointed to 2-year terms. A member or designee of Board of Selectmen, a member of the Planning Board, a member of the Conservation Commission, a member of the Parks and Recreation Commission, an engineer appointed by the Board of Selectmen, and two members at-large to be appointed by the Town Moderator are members of this committee. The Open Space & Recreation Committee typically meets the third Monday of every month. Public meeting dates and times are posted at Town Hall and the Dedham Public Library at least 48 hours before each meeting in compliance with the Massachusetts Open Meeting Law. Meeting agendas will also be posted on this website.
