BSL MS 2006
The Rush brothers, Chris & Patrick, had the golden touch on Sunday, with each capturing their weight classes with ease. Chris is an eight grader who saw some varsity action this year and 6th grader-Patrick pinned all his opponents so quickly, I'm not sure if his coaches got to see him wrestle.
Our 5th & 6th graders did a tremendous job winning four weight classes and three placing 2nd. Zack Maiuri has been unstoppable this year so far and is the only undefeated wrestler on the team. Danny Clawson got back on the winning track again, boy does he hate taking second. Danny Toubman is a 5th grade terror on the mat, pinning his way through the past two tournaments. Our three runner-ups, Brendan Dacey, Diego Crespo, and Nick Rumpp, battled like champions. Teammates, Morgan Rockett and Cameron Carpenter had to battle it out for the third place trophy and 5th grader-Cody Hyman placed 4th in a tough weight class behind Zach Thomas, son of former Dedhamite-Kevin Thomas.
We had a reversal of placement for the 7th & 8th graders, with three champions and four runner-ups. Matt McLaughlin (nephew of Joe & Mark Lavita) in his first tournament appearance for the year was dominating on top for first place. Frank Mahoney was perfect again on Sunday with four easy wins. Runner-ups, Chris Burns, Brian Carilli, Nick Lembo and Matt Richberg lost tough matches in the finals. Cameron Visser, Kyle Gildea, Kevin Geary, Chris Wilson, Darragh Heffernan and John O'Connell fought back to place third and fourth on the day. Also wrestling were Matt Driscoll, Orion Hatch Bob Salter and Bobby Fish. We were missing fourteen of our teammates and if we could get them all to show up at one time, we could be unstoppable, but that will have to wait till next year.
On Sunday, a select few wrestlers will travel to the Massachusetts Youth State Tournament to be held in Ludlow, Mass. The top wrestlers from the three different youth leagues, (Big East, little Hockomock & Springfield area) will battle it out to be declared the 2006 Youth State Champion.
