The Dedham Commission on Disability Minutes – December 9, 2009 Commission Members Present: Martha Brown Vicky Berg Ken Cimeno Diane Daria Carolann Reaves Tricia Whitehouse The minutes of the October DCOD meeting were read and corrected. There were no HP fines in October and the balance on October 31 was 31,251.83. The minutes were accepted as corrected. Treasurer's report was was as follows: $ 31,251.83 – October 31st balance 340.00 – HP fines 10.95 - interest $ 31,602.78 – November 30th balance Jefferson Place Access Problems – There is a drainage culvert that is not shielded well on the sidewalk between Jefferson Place and Legacy Place. Also, one side of the crosswalk has tactile bumps and the other does not. Dedham Food Pantry – Ken visited the future Food Pantry. For spaces greater than 12,000 square feet, two bathrooms are required. In a retail store, access to a bathroom is not required to be given to clients. To make one accessible bathroom in the Food Pantry, it would be necessary to remove the wall between the two existing bathrooms and replumb the pipes. They could probably get a waiver to have only one bathroom. It is not a code requirement. You are allowed to replace fixtures but if you change anything, you need to upgrade to Architectural Access Board code. So $565 will not enable them to have an accessible bathroom. They can reapply for hardware to make their front door more accessible. Ken will contact them to get a revised proposal for increased accessibility. There was a discussion about whether we should ask for proof of financial need. New Member – Martha Brown is now a member of DCOD. We read Sam Celata's warrant Article and agreed that it is not relevant to our mission. The next meeting will be January 6, 2010 at Emeritus at Wilson Mountain at 7:15pm. | ||
