THE 4TH ANNUAL OKTOBERFEST TO FEATURE A FULL WEEKEND OF ENTERTAINMENT Events Include a Music Festival and Comedy Night Friday, September 17 through Sunday, September 19 Dedham, MA, August 2010 – The 4th annual Oktoberfest, to be held Sunday, September 19, has been newly expanded to a full weekend of entertainment on the grounds of Endicott Estate, in Dedham, MA. To kick off the three day celebration, “Music Under The Tent, will be held on Friday evening, September 17, featuring the local group, The Contentments, along with special guest, The Joe Brogan Jazz Trio. Saturday evening September 18, will offer “Comedy Under the Tent,” featuring an all-star line-up, including headliner Patti Ross. The weekend will conclude on Sunday afternoon, September 19, with the traditional aroma, sounds and entertainment of Oktoberfest. Opening Night -- “Music Under the Tent” An Oktoberfest first, the Dedham School of Music will provide top performers for the opening night music festival. The line-up includes: The Contentments, a group of musicians from Dedham who will perform the soulful music of the ‘60s and ‘70s; the Shiretown Horns, a four piece collection of winds and reeds with jazz and classical roots; and Joe Brogan, the newly retired music director for Dedham Public Schools, who will bring his band’s swing style and personality to the festival. “The Dedham School of Music was formed to enrich the surrounding communities with a variety of music,” said Fred Civian, board member. “The Oktoberfest weekend promises to offer a great jamming session by talented amateurs from throughout this region.” “Music Under the Tent” will be held on Friday, September 17, beginning at 7:00pm, with the last dance at 11:00pm. Saturday Night -- “Comedy Under the Tent” Another first for Oktoberfest is the Saturday night “Comedy Under the Tent,” which brings together top talent in the comedy arena, both local and national. Dedham native Patti Ross, who always turns in a sold-out crowd, is the featured headliner for both scheduled shows at 6:00pm and 8:30pm. The first show also features comedian Paul Smith. The second act stars talent who’ve appeared on the “Tonight Show with Jay Leno” and on the “Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien, with numerous appearances on Comedy Central - Juston McKinney and Paul D’Angelo. Paul McMurtry, producer of the comedy event and owner of Dedham Community Theatre said, “This is a fantastic weekend of fun and entertainment for everyone in the area. Endicott Estate provides the perfect setting for live stand-up comedy. We are proud to support such a great event within this historical landmark.” Tickets for the September 18 show are $20. The Main Event – Oktoberfest The weekend’s activities culminate to the grand annual Oktoberfest on Sunday, September 19 from noon to 5:00pm. Now in its fourth year, Oktoberfest has grown to become a crowd-pleasing custom that attracts generations of families and neighbors from across the region. In the spirit of the original Oktoberfest of Munich dating back to 1810, the upcoming event at Endicott Estate offers a taste of Bavaria in Dedham, with a wide selection of music, entertainment and expanded activities for children and families. An array of food and drink will be offered including German traditional favorites of bratwurst and sauerkraut, as well as pulled pork, grilled pizza and sausages. The “bier garten” will feature a fine selection of beers and favorite wines. Cost of admission is $5.oo per person, children under 13 are free. The 2010 Oktoberfest will include live German entertainment with the 12-piece renowned band, The Oberlaendler Hofbrau. In full traditional dress, playing the anvil and musical bells, the band encourages all attendees, young and old, to sing along and dance with the Musicant, the Wood Chopper and New England's favorite, "The Beer Barrel Polka.” The event will also feature scores of vendors and supporters, including longtime supporters National Amusements, located in Norwood, MA, and Blue Hill Blue Hills Regional Technical School, located in Canton, MA. Partnering this year for the first time is Blue Hills Brewery, a microbrewery based in Canton, MA. “We are pleased to be involved with the Oktoberfest for the fourth year, to support the volunteers and the community, as they come together to celebrate and preserve the Endicott Estate,” said Tony Pungitore, Director of Operations for National Amusements.” The Katherine Endicott Foundation Built in 1904, by Henry Bradford Endicott, the 19th century mansion is one of Dedham’s most majestic landmarks and has the distinction of being listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Upholding Henry’s stepdaughter Katherine’s wishes, the house and 15 acre property are used for education, civic, social and recreational purposes, as well as for corporate meetings and social events. Founded in 2007, The Katherine Endicott Foundation, is dedicated to preserving the Endicott Estate for the enjoyment of all. About Oktoberfest at the Endicott Estate The Oktoberfest at the Endicott Estate Inc. is a 501c3 organization. The Estate relies on the dedication of a core group of one dozen volunteers that work to make the festival a success. By hosting such events as the Oktoberfest Weekend, The Katherine Endicott Foundation seeks to share this landmark with the public and to generate funds, to ensure that the Estate truly remains a historical treasure.
