NOTICE OF VACANCY - Poet Laureate

Pursuant to Section 6-13 of the Dedham Home Rule Charter, the Board of Selectmen calls the attention of all residents and others to the fact the following vacancy exists.

 

The Poet Laureate shall comprise poetry at the request of the Town Administrator, the Superintendent of Schools, the Moderator and any board or committee of the Town, and shall compose a poem at the end of each year to be included in the Town Reports. The Poet Laureate may also comprise a poem for community groups or to mark and commemorate notable events in the life of the town.

 

Other duties of the Poet Laureate shall include serving as an ambassador of poetry, literacy, and the arts in the schools and in the community. The Public Library shall maintain a copy of all poems written by the Poet Laureate in the course of their duties.

Any person who desires to be considered for appointment for this position must respond between September 19^th and September 29^th; interested persons shall file with the Board of Selectmen, his/her name and residential address, and a resume and/or statement-in verse, if preferred-which sets forth in clear and specific terms the qualifications he/she holds for the position. In addition, candidates are asked to submit a portfolio of three to five original poems.
