Under the Dedham Home-Rule Charter, the Board of Selectmen serves as the chief policy making agency of the Town of Dedham. More specifically, the Board of Selectmen is responsible for:
The formulation and promulgation of policy directives and guidelines to be followed by all town agencies serving under the jurisdiction of the Board.
- The development and promulgation, in conjunction with other elected town officers and multiple member bodies, policy guidelines designed to bring the operation of all town agencies into harmony.
- Serves as the Licensing Board for the Town of Dedham, including the issuance of various licenses relating to the sale of alcohol, food, and other consumer products.
- The appointment of the Town Administrator, Constables, Registrars of Voters, members of the Board of Appeals, Conservation Commission, Historic District Commission, and other members of other multiple members bodies the functions of which do not involve direct operating responsibilities.
- The investigation of affairs of the town and the conduct of any town agency.
