FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BOARD OF SELECTMEN CHOOSES NEW TOWN MANAGER
The Dedham Board of Selectmen voted unanimously last night to offer Leon Goodwin the job as Dedham’s next Town Manager, pending negotiation of a contract.
Goodwin served as Town Manager in Salem, New Hampshire, before spending the last two years as a Foreign Service Officer in the US State Department. He is an attorney and worked previously as the Assistant City Solicitor in Keene, New Hampshire and as the Assistant Town Manager and Director of Community Affairs in Salem.
Goodwin’s skills, experience, and fit for the role were clear to the board after he rose through an extensive selection process, including public listening sessions and stakeholder interviews held to understand the needs and vision of the community, public employees, and elected officials. After a thorough screening process, three candidates were presented to the Board of Selectmen for public vetting. Selectmen conducted site visits, held public interviews, and communicated with references for all three finalists. Finalists also met with several Department Heads at Town Hall. After reviewing all of the data, board members were in agreement that Goodwin was a strategic, creative, and inclusive leader who can provide the fiscal and personnel management that Dedham needs right now.
“The board was impressed with Leon’s extensive list of accomplishments, his commitment to engaging with residents and his ideas about how to help Dedham become an even better place to live and work,” said Selectmen Chair Dennis Guilfoyle. “With the combination of his broad experience in municipal government and his obvious passion for public service, we are confident Leon can take the reins and lead Dedham as we continue to evolve.”
“I am honored to serve as Dedham’s next Town Manager. I got my first taste of local government here in Dedham and couldn’t be more excited to make my return to local government in a community that I hold in such high regard,” said Town Manager appointee Leon Goodwin.
The Selectmen thanked the Town Manager Search Committee, chaired by Town Moderator Dan Driscoll, search consultants Bernie Lynch and Sharon Flaherty of Community Paradigm Associates, and Acting Town Manager Nancy Baker for all of their efforts to ensure a smooth and effective process.
Goodwin is expected to start on or before November 1st.
