Manor Fields Update

Post Date: 12/04/2019 2:34 PM
The Vice Chair of the Select Board, Chair and Vice Chair of the Parks and Recreation Commission, Parks and Recreation Director, Town Manager, Town Moderator and Town Counsel, with Board Member Sarah MacDonald participating by telephone, met on Wednesday, December 4, to discuss the result of the vote on Article 6 of the November 25, 2019, Fall Annual Town Meeting, the Manor Fields project.  As was indicated at the Town Meeting, where the project involved a borrowing, a 2/3 vote was required for the vote to pass.  The vote was declared passed by a small percentage.  Concerns have been raised by Town Meeting Representatives, as well as members of the general public, some who were in favor of the outcome and some who were opposed.

As such, the meeting focused on what would be best for the Town as a whole.  To the extent that any forward movement on the project requires support of the Town Meeting and the voters, options for addressing the issue were discussed. The participants agreed that there would be value in revisiting the issue.

The Chair of the Parks and Recreation Commission intends to call a meeting to discuss with the Commission the possibility of requesting that the Select Board call a special town meeting to consider the issue or place it on the warrant for a future Annual Town Meeting.

Note that the Town Moderator is researching best practices with regard to calculating a 2/3 vote and will report to Town Meeting.
