Firearms license renewal process modified during state of emergency

Post Date: 03/19/2020 1:00 PM

An update from Chief of Police Michael d'Entremont

Given the current Covid 19 pandemic and state of emergency, the Dedham Police Department has implemented the following procedures for renewing firearms licenses:

  • Firearms license renewal applications will be accepted by mail. Applications will not be processed in person at this time. Applications should be address to Dedham Police Department, Attn: Firearms Licensing, 600 High Street, Dedham, MA 02026;
  • Applications sent via mail must include a complete and signed application, proof of residency (e.g., a copy of a real estate tax bill, utility bill, etc.);
  • Payment of the license processing fee of $100 made payable to the Town of Dedham. Renewal applicants over 70 years of age are free;
  • Upon receipt of complete applications, the Dedham Police will mail you an official receipt. Complete applications received prior to the expiration date of your current license result in your current license remaining valid with the accompanying renewal application receipt until a decision is made to either approve or deny a renewal application;
  • Due to the requirement of process fingerprints in association with “new” applications, the Department will not be processing “new” applications at this time;

We thank you in advance for your cooperation and look forward to re-establishing normal procedures as soon as possible.
