This is a reminder that the MBTA's contractor, P. Gioioso & Sons, is closing East Street from 11 PM on Friday, November 1, through 4 AM on Monday, November 4. A full roadway detour will be in place and you can view the detour map here. In addition, buses will replace Commuter Rail train service on Saturday, November 2, and Sunday, November 3.
For the most up-to-date information about Commuter Rail impacts, please view Franklin Line alerts.
Overnight Work Continues
Overnight work will continue on the following dates to allow the contractor to install micropiles for the new bridge abutments:
- Saturday, November 2 through Monday, November 4, from 12:00 AM midnight to 4:00 AM Monday morning.
- Friday night, November 8 through Sunday morning, November 10, from 10:00 PM each night to 8:00 AM the following morning.
Weekday East Street Roadway Closure, November 6-8
The MBTA's contractor anticipates closing East Street under the bridge on Wednesday, November 6 through Friday, November 8, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM each day. The lane closures are necessary for utility work.
Current Impacts
This is a reminder that the daytime East Street roadway closure under the bridge will continue through Friday, November 1. The closure will be in place from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The closure is necessary to allow the contractor to install the temporary access ramps.
In addition to the roadway closure, some Commuter Rail parking spaces on Grant Avenue, near the East Street intersection, will be temporarily unavailable during this period.
Detour Route - view the detour map here
East Street traffic will be detoured via Cedar St and Sanderson Ave.
Traveling north on East Street:
- From the roundabout, take the Sprague St/Cedar St exit and continue on Cedar St until you reach the five-way intersection.
- Turn left on Sanderson Ave then turn left (toward the bridge) or right (to continue north on East St) to continue to your destination.
Traveling south on East Street:
- Turn left on Sanderson Ave, then right on Cedar St.
- Continue on Cedar St until you reach the roundabout, then continue to your destination.
Local access on either side of the Commuter Rail bridge will be maintained. Detour signs will be in place to indicate the routes.
This project will observe daytime construction work hours, unless otherwise noted.
Weather and unexpected circumstances make all construction activities subject to change without notice, but we will do our best to keep you updated.
Travel Tips
Those traveling through the area should expect delays and should reduce speed and use caution.
About the Project
