July 2024 Update: The MassDOT Project team recently shared the following project update to email subscribers and to project abutters:
Bussey Street Bridge Project Enters Phase II
Note: Pedestrian detour in place; bridge will remain closed to vehicular traffic.
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is announcing the next phase of work on the Bussey Street Bridge project in Dedham. Phase II work encompasses completion of the remaining bridge deck and railing, construction of additional pedestrian facilities south of the bridge, and repaving of the roadway corridor throughout the entire project limits.
Phase II traffic impacts:
- As one side of the bridge is completed, pedestrians will be redirected through the completed section of the bridge pedestrian sidewalk starting Friday, July 12. This new pedestrian access route will remain in effect until the completion of the project.
- The existing bridge closure to vehicular traffic will remain to support the second phase of the bridge construction.
- The existing traffic detours will remain throughout the work area.
Significant work has been successfully completed on Bussey Street as part of Phase I of the project, extending from approximately 100 feet north of Liberty Lane to Colburn Street at the bridge. The work completed thus far includes drainage installation, utility relocation, concrete sidewalk installation, and reconstruction of half of the new bridge deck and the associated bridge railing.
Appropriate signage, law enforcement details, and messaging will be in place to guide drivers through the work area.
Drivers traveling through the affected areas should expect delays, reduce speed, and use caution. All scheduled work is weather dependent and subject to change without notice.
