Project Update Week of October 16, 2023
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) Project Team responsible for the Bussey Street Bridge Project will has begun demolition of the bridge superstructure as of Monday, October 16, 2023. This phase of work is expected to take approximately two weeks and all demolition work will take place between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
The superstructure demolition work will produce noise around the jobsite that will be monitored to ensure noise levels do not exceed legal limits. This work is not expected to cause vibrations outside of the project limits.
About the Project
The MassDOT Project Team previously announced the closure of the Bussey Street Bridge, located over Mother Brook in Dedham, back in August of this year. The bridge officially closed September 18 and will remain closed through Spring 2025 in order to support roadway reconstruction and related work.
Pedestrian access will be maintained over the existing bridge during construction. A temporary detour plan is currently in place to guide drivers with appropriate detours, as outlined below:
TEMPORARY DETOUR - BUSSEY STREET BRIDGE OVER MOTHER BROOK
Vehicles will be detoured to the following routes during bridge construction:
- High Street to Maverick Street to Colburn Street to Bussey Street
- Sawmill Lane to Dedham Boulevard to Harding Terrace to Colburn Street to Bussey Street
Note: Access to all properties along Bussey Street, INCLUDING CONDON PARK, will be maintained and open during construction while the bridge is closed.
Appropriate signage, law enforcement details, and advance message boards are in place to guide travelers through the work area. MassDOT encourages drivers to seek alternate routes, reduce speed, and use caution while approaching and traveling through the work zone.
