Installation of the delineators along Needham Street was completed today, May 31, 2024 (two photos below). These delineators have been installed along this section of Needham Street (in front of the Riverdale School) as part of the Needham Street Lane Narrowing Pilot Project put forth by the Active Transportation Working Group (ATWG) and approved by the Select Board.

The Pilot Project will be conducted over a 6-month period and the results and findings will be presented to the community at public information session in October or November of this year (final date to be announced.)

Next Steps

Maintenance During the Pilot

The Dedham DPW team will maintain the delineators throughout the timeline of the study, and each will be installed so as to not impede or negatively impact access to services, including curbside trash/recycling collections. If a resident does experience an interruption in their curbside collection services, please contact the DPW via the online service request portal or by calling the DPW at 781-751-9350.

About the Project

This lane narrowing will be accomplished by physically narrowing the existing travel lane widths of 13 feet to 10 feet with plastic delineators. The delineators will be installed from the roundabout at Vine Rock to Hillside. The Town Engineering department will conduct a study prior to installation and during the pilot to measure vehicle behaviors.
