MBTA East St Bridge Project Updates

Upcoming Full Weekend Commuter Rail Track & East Street Roadway Closure

The following information was provided by the MBTA East Street Bridge Project team on Friday, April 11, through their Project Notification List:

Dedham East Street Bridge Replacement Project Reminder

REMINDER: Upcoming Full Weekend Commuter Rail Track & East Street Roadway Closure

This is a reminder that the MBTA has scheduled an East Street roadway closure through 6 AM on Monday, April 14. You can view the detour map here.

Additionally, the project team has scheduled a Commuter Rail track closure during the same weekend, April 11-13. Buses will replace train service from Friday, April 11 through start of service on Monday, April 14. For the most up-to-date information about Commuter Rail impacts, please view Franklin Line alerts.

Some Commuter Rail parking spaces on Grant Avenue, near the East Street intersection, will be temporarily unavailable from Wednesday, April 9 through Monday, April 14.

This work is necessary to allow the contractor to conduct installation of the bridge abutments.

The project team anticipates a second full weekend closure for the bridge installation in June 2025. More detailed information about this closure will be provided in May.

East Street Roadway Closure

The MBTA's contractor, P. Gioioso & Sons, anticipates closing one lane of East Street from 7 AM to 3:30 PM on Tuesday, April 15 through Friday, April 18.

Additionally, we anticipate closing East Street on Tuesday, April 22 through Friday, April 25. Traffic will be detoured. We will provide more information on this work closer to the date.

These lane closures are necessary so crews can conduct roadway utility work.

Adjacent Projects

Additional utility work unrelated to the project is also taking place in the Dedham East Street Bridge Replacement Project area.

Travel Tips

Those traveling through the area should expect delays and should reduce speed and use caution. 

Weather and unexpected circumstances make all construction activities subject to change without notice, but we will do our best to keep you updated.

About the Project

The Dedham East Street Bridge carries the Franklin Line over East Street between Dedham Corporate Center and Endicott Stations. The MBTA will be replacing it with a new bridge that will meet the MBTA’s reliability and modernization standards.
