Program Spotlight: Military Mondays

On Monday, June 23, Veterans Services Officer Joe Hamilton hosted his monthly "Military Mondays" gathering at the Ames Senior Center and this one came with a special addition.

A scholarship to honor PFC John Barnes, a Dedham High School graduate who made the ultimate sacrifice in Vietnam, was established to support local students entering the military after high school. PFC Barnes was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his extraordinary heroism and selfless courage in saving his fellow soldiers.

Nathan Sayers, a recent graduate of Xaverian Brothers High School, is the first recipient of this scholarship and has recently reported to the Coast Guard Academy for his initial orientation weeks. While at Xaverian, Nathan was co-captain of the wrestling team and was recognized as an All Scholastic Athlete by the Boston Herald.

We're proud to support the next generation of service members who embody the same spirit of dedication and patriotism. Thank you Nathan and congratulations!

Are you a Dedham resident who is a veteran or active duty service member? Or do you know one? We're here to help! Contact VSO Joe Hamilton today at 781-751-9267.
