Please read the following statement and update issued by the Norfolk County District Attorney's Office regarding an early morning shooting in Dedham on June 25, 2025 (issued July 20, 2025):
A Dorchester man is expected to be arraigned Monday in Dedham District Court on charges related to an ongoing investigation into a fatal shooting last month at a parking lot on Route 1 in Dedham, Norfolk District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey announced today.
Franci Villar, 23, is charged with armed assault with intent to murder, assault and battery with a firearm, carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, firearm violation with a prior violent/drug offense, District Attorney Morrissey said.
The investigation into the shooting on June 25 at 688 Providence Highway is active and ongoing by Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Norfolk District Attorney’s Office and Dedham Police.
No other information is being released at this time.

The victim of the fatal shooting early this morning in the parking lot of 688 Providence Highway is identified as 20-year-old Jaylani Cole of Brockton, Norfolk District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey and Dedham Police Chief Michael d’Entremont said.
Cole was found suffering from gunshot wounds shortly after 3:30 a.m. after Dedham police received multiple 911 calls. He was later pronounced deceased at an area hospital.
Another shooting victim, a 20-year-old man, underwent surgery at an area hospital and is expected to recover from his injuries.
The business was closed at the time of the incident and no arrests have been made.
“This is still an active and ongoing investigation. It is always a tragedy when a young life is taken. Our sympathies go out to Jaylani’s family and friends,” District Attorney Morrissey said.

Massachusetts State Police Detectives and Dedham Police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred at the BJ’s parking lot on Route 1 early this morning, Norfolk District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey and Dedham Police Chief Michael d’Entremont said.
Dedham Police and Fire departments were dispatched to the parking lot shortly after 3:30 a.m. after receiving multiple 911 calls.
The initial investigation revealed two individuals suffered gunshot wounds. One individual later was pronounced deceased at an area hospital and the other is still being treated.
This is an active and ongoing investigation by Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Norfolk District Attorney’s Office, Dedham Police and the Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene Services Section.
