Condon Park Splash Pad Construction Update - July 22, 2025
What to Expect: Current Construction Activities
The Condon Park Splash Pad Construction Team is continuing to make progress onsite and is currently finishing up the installation of the subsurface infiltration system (learn more below).
Later this week, excavation will begin for the new underground storage tank that will hold spray water and stormwater. Crews will also start to dig the foundation for the storage shed this week.
What is a subsurface infiltration system and what is its role?
When it rains, the water that falls onto pavement and other hard surfaces can’t soak into the ground like it does in a forest or a field. Instead, it flows across the surface and picks up whatever is left behind—things like trash, oil, fertilizer, and pet waste. This is called stormwater, and if it isn’t managed properly, it can carry pollution straight into our rivers and streams.
The new underground system at the Condon Park Splash Pad acts like a filter. It collects stormwater and lets it slowly soak into the soil. As the water filters through layers of stone, sand, and earth, many pollutants are removed before the water makes its way to Mother Brook.
This kind of system is known as a stormwater best management practice (BMP), and it helps make sure the splash pad is fun and environmentally responsible! Check out the photos below to see the installation progress to date.

Site Security and Safety
Temporary construction fencing has been installed around the work area to ensure both public safety and site security, and will remain in in place throughout the project to protect visitors and construction personnel.
Portions of the playground, including some play structures, are now temporarily fenced off during construction and are not available for use at this time. Signage has been installed to help further delineate which portions of the playground are still open.
Park Access
- The playground, ball field, and parking areas will remain open and accessible
- Construction area will be clearly marked and fenced for safety. Please be respectful of the construction tape and fencing; do not remove or attempt to move them.
Funding Source
The splash pad construction is funded through American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds distributed by Norfolk County.
Anticipated Project Schedule
Project is expected to be completed before the end of this summer. Schedule updates will be shared as they are available.
