Detour Updates Week of August 18

One lane alternating traffic on East Street; Sprague Street reopens; MBTA work continues as scheduled

While summer is typically construction and road detour season, we know this season has been challenging. To help you plan your daily commute, we have compiled information about three upcoming detours into one place for your quick reference.

Please review the following detour information and updates for the week of August 18, 2025:

  • Dedham-Westwood Water District: East Street, Dedham Water Main Replacement Project
    • Anticipated Construction Schedule: Continue water main work on East Street between Norwich Street and Vincent Road.
    • Anticipated Traffic Impacts (NEW TRAFFIC PATTERN): A one-lane alternating traffic pattern on East Street will be in effect daily from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

  • UPDATED AUGUST 21, 2025: Sprague Street Detour (Underground Utility Work for private residential project)
    • The road has reopened to two-way traffic and regular traffic patterns has resumed.  
    • Sprague Street was closed to through traffic on Monday, August 18 through end of day Wednesday, August 20 between West Milton Street (Boston) and Cedar Street (Dedham) for underground utility work, with local resident/business access maintained and emergency vehicle access guaranteed.
    • Message boards and detour signage were installed around the work zone and detour route(s) and police details were available to help guide traffic around the work zone. For more information, please review our August 13 update about this temporary detour.
  • MBTA East Street Bridge Project
