The Dedham Police Department is pleased to announce that we are planning to host the Department’s 14th Citizens Police Academy. Partnerships between the police and our community are essential for effective public safety. Our Citizens Police Academy is a unique opportunity for citizens and officers to build trust and understanding related to our community and policing services in Dedham.

This is an informational program designed to provide citizens of Dedham with an inside look at the inner workings of a modern police department. This will be an interactive forum which will allow for the exchange of information between police officers and citizens. Citizens of all ages are invited to attend. There is no cost to attend this program.

Participants will tour the Public Safety Building and be presented with information from Dedham Police Officers, E911 Dispatchers and civilian personnel. Material related to E-911, criminal law, cybercrime, juvenile issues, our community resource dog, alcohol enforcement and education, public safety drones, court procedures, Domestic Violence Ended, the Sex Offender Registry, use of force, firearms licensing, narcotics, crime scene investigation, traffic issues, motor vehicle law, citizen response to hostile events, animal control and more will be discussed.

This will be a 10-week program. The Academy will meet once per week on Wednesday nights starting at 6 pm at the Public Safety Building (26 Bryant Street). Each session will last up to 2 hours. The Academy will run on the following Wednesday nights:

  • September 17 and 24
  • October 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29
  • November 5, 12 and 19
