To help you plan your daily commute, we have compiled information about three upcoming detours into one place for your quick reference.
Please review the following detour information and updates for the week of September 22, 2025:
-
- Night work will occur Sunday, September 21, 8 p.m., to Monday, September 22, 5 a.m. The contractor will continue water service connection work at Willard Street.
- East Street will be closed to through traffic from the rotary to Vincent Road. While the road is closed, the following detour will be in effect FOR CARS ONLY:
- Why is this happening? Both a detour and night work are necessary because the existing water main, just past the Boch Ice Center, is located in the middle of the road on East Street. The existing water main must be removed and replaced in the exact same location, and due to conflicts with other existing utilities in the road, the District cannot relocate this pipe.
- What are the work hours? Hours of work are Sunday through Friday, starting at 8 p.m. and ending at 5 a.m.
- Other things to note: While the road is closed, the following detour will be in effect FOR CARS ONLY:
- Traffic traveling Southbound on East Street toward Dedham: Detour right down Vincent Road, left onto Greenlodge Street, left onto Sprague Street, left onto Cedar Street, returning to the rotary.
- Traffic traveling Northbound on East Street toward Westwood/Rt. 128: Detour at the rotary onto Cedar Street, right onto Sprague Street, right onto Greenlodge Street, right onto Vincent Road, returning to East Street.
- For the remainder of the week: Daytime work will occur, Monday, September 22 through Friday, September 26, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., including:
- Pressure test, chlorinate, and disinfect the next section of water main (past Liana Lane to Vincent Road).
- Service line connections will likely convene mid-week, starting Wednesday on East Street between 1007 East Street and Liana Lane.
- For residents who are connected to the temporary water main, you will receive a notification with instructions regarding the next steps. The process is the reverse of when we connected you to the temporary water main.
- Traffic impacts: At the start of the week, the contractor anticipates traffic to flow as usual, two lanes. Once service connection work begins, an alternating traffic pattern will be in effect near the work zone.
-
