As our department works to improve and maintain Dedham's roadways, we also try to minimize disruptions caused by construction. The Construction Updates section below will be updated to keep everyone informed of construction project locations and estimated timelines.

While we will do our best to keep this page as accurate as possible, please be advised that the schedule of construction projects may change as road construction timelines are subject to a range of external factors, including weather, safety, contractor availability, design complications, and funding.

Construction Updates

Detour Updates Week of October 5

To help you plan your daily commute, we have compiled information about three upcoming detours into one place for your quick reference.

Please review the following detour information and updates for the week of October 5, 2025:

  • Dedham-Westwood Water District: East Street, Dedham Water Main Replacement Project

    • Night work will occur Sunday, October 5, through Friday, October 10. Hours of work are 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
      • Service line connection work will continue on East Street between Liana Lane and Delapa Circle.
      • Miscellaneous water main work will also occur on East Street between Norwich Street and Vincent Road. 
    • While work occurs at night, East Street will be closed to through traffic from the rotary to Vincent Road. While the road is closed, the following detour will be in effect FOR CARS ONLY:
      • Traffic traveling Southbound on East Street toward Dedham:
        • Detour right down Vincent Road, left onto Greenlodge Street, left onto Sprague Street, left onto Cedar Street, returning to the rotary.
      • Traffic traveling Northbound on East Street toward Westwood/Rt. 128: 
        •  Detour at the rotary onto Cedar Street, right onto Sprague Street, right onto Greenlodge Street, right onto Vincent Road, returning to East Street.
    • Some sporadic daytime work will also occur throughout the week between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m., including:
      • Conducting water quality testing on the next section of water main (past Delapa Circle to Vincent Road). Traffic impacts will be minor at times. 

  • MBTA East Street Bridge Project (as of October 3, 2025)

    • East Street will be closed on the following days, times:
      • 7 AM to 3:30 PM on Saturday, October 4.
        • Please note, police details will be onsite during this closure
      • On the following weekdays:
        • From 7 AM to 3:30 PM through Tuesday, October 7
        • From 7 AM to 5:30 PM from Wednesday, October 8 through the end of October
    • Detour route in place is the same as weeks prior, and is available on the MBTA website.
