MBTA East St Bridge Project Updates

The following information was provided by the MBTA East Street Bridge Project team through their Project Notification List:

Dedham East Street Bridge Replacement Project Update

Project Status Video Presentation

Since our last update in Summer 2025, the project continued progress and completed track work and substructure cast-in-place retaining walls construction as well as continued utility relocation work.  

In early Spring 2026, we will complete utility relocation and lower and reconstruct the roadway. We anticipate the project’s substantial completion by late Spring 2026 and final completion of work by Summer 2026.

The reconfigured roadway will provide a final bridge clearance of 14-feet and have 12-foot travel lanes, with 2-foot shoulders, and new sidewalks will be added on both sides of East Street.

East Street Roadway Closures

The MBTA's contractor, P. Gioioso & Sons, anticipates closing East Street on weekdays from 7 AM to 3:30 PM through the end of December.

No construction work will take place during the following days due to the holidays:

  • Wednesday, December 24, through Friday, December 26
  • Wednesday, December 31, through Friday, January 2

You can view the detour map here. These closures are necessary so crews can conduct roadway utility and bridge work.

Additional utility work unrelated to the project is also taking place in the Dedham East Street Bridge Replacement Project area.

Travel Tips

Those traveling through the area should expect delays and should reduce speed and use caution. 

Weather and unexpected circumstances make all construction activities subject to change without notice, but we will do our best to keep you updated.

About the Project

The Dedham East Street Bridge carries the Franklin Line over East Street between Dedham Corporate Center and Endicott Stations. The MBTA will be replacing it with a new bridge that will meet the MBTA’s reliability and modernization standards.
