We have great news…Our sidewalk tractor has been repaired! We are actively working to clear sidewalks nearest to the schools first, and we have been able to work with private contractors to help us get this work done as quickly as possible.
Where We’re Headed Next
Our DPW crews and contractors are continuing snow removal operations tonight across several areas of town and here is where you can expect to see activity:
- SIDEWALK CLEARING is underway in East Dedham Square area, including Milton St, Bussey St, High St (Milton to Harvard), Walnut St (Milton to Whiting), Whiting Ave, Mt. Vernon St, and East St. Cedar St and Sprague St will be addressed if time allows.
- SNOW PILE REMOVAL AND CORNER CLEARING is taking place in the Manor/Endicott area, including Sherman St, Louise Rd, Turner St, the Endicott Rotary, the Grant Ave parking area, and dead ends in Oakdale and Greenlodge.
- DEDHAM SQUARE work begins at the Court St and Highland St intersection and continues through the square.
- In RIVERDALE, crews are focusing on corners and dead ends starting on Commonwealth Ave.
- In EAST DEDHAM, corners, intersections, and dead ends are being cleared starting on Colburn St.
Work will resume tomorrow morning where crews left off. For the latest updates, visit: www.dedham-ma.gov/winter-weather.
Updated Estimates and Days of Work Still Ahead
As soon as we published our last community update, the weather service sent us the official snow totals for Dedham: 26.5 inches total! No small feat, but we are tackling this challenge head on. Snow is already starting to melt, thankfully, but rest assured we are running all available equipment up and down roads to widen them and clear intersections to make them safer for everyone. We thank you for your continued patience and for your constant encouragement.
Overnight Parking Ban
We anticipate multiple overnight parking bans for snow removal. A parking ban will go into effect tonight (February 25) at 6PM to help us remove and clear snow. Doing this in the overnight hours provides for more safe and efficient removal because less vehicles will be out on the roads.
Here is what the overnight parking ban means for you:
- Except where otherwise posted, residents without driveways will park on the EVEN side of the street during the month of February. (February is an EVEN month)
- No parking is permitted on sidewalks. If you are parking on the street, ensure that you are not blocking a sidewalk.
- No on-street parking at night will be allowed on the following streets:
- East Street (High St to Route 128)
- High Street
- Common Street
- Dedham Square
- East Dedham Square
- Bussey Street
- Milton Street
- Ames Street
- Court Street
- Sprague Street
- Oakdale Square
- Washington Street (Dedham line to Westwood line)
- Needham Street
- Sanderson Avenue
All vehicles must be removed from streets immediately to allow plows to clear roadways. Vehicles parked in violation of this ban may be towed at the owner’s expense. No matter where you park your vehicle, please remember to keep all heat exhaust pipes clear of snow for safe circulation.
We've Been Reaching Out Through CodeRed
We've sent emergency alerts through our CodeRed system (by Crisis24) during the storm covering parking bans, trash delays, closures, and other updates. The same info has been posted on our website, our Winter Weather page, and across social media.
CodeRed goes out to all publicly listed landlines automatically, but if you want to receive alerts on your mobile device or by email, you need to register. Registration is quick and can be done online at accountportal.onsolve.net/dedhamtownma. If you need help signing up, reach out to Amanda Smith, Director of Communications, at asmith@dedhamma.gov.
Want to Help? Here's How
If you can lend a hand and shovel out nearby sidewalks, fire hydrants, and storm drains, we would really appreciate it. These efforts can have a significant impact and will aid in the return to normalcy following this historic snowstorm. Also, please make sure to check on your neighbors and those you know who may need additional assistance.
