Anime Connections

A socio-emotional learning group for High School students of Dedham; Progress is FREE and open to Dedham residents attending any high school

Anime tells powerful stories about friendship, perseverance, identity, and overcoming challenges. The Dedham Youth Commission is excited to offer a facilitated discussion group for high school students that uses anime as a starting point for meaningful conversations about life, emotions, and community.

Guided by Arda, the DYC's Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), participants will watch clips and explore themes from popular anime while discussing topics, such as:

  • Self-Identity and personal growth
  • Friendship, teamwork and belonging
  • Handling pressure, failure and resislience
  • Mental health and emotional awareness
  • And much more

Anime stories sometimes explore complex themes. Any mature topics will be guided by our Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and parents will be informed ahead of time when those discussions are planned.
