Notice of Mosquito Spraying

Dedham's weekly spraying is scheduled for Wednesdays, staring end of May through September
Post Date:06/02/2026 4:30 pm

The Norfolk County Mosquito Control District's Ultra Low Volume (ULV) spraying occurs weekly beginning May 27th and ending in September, weather dependent. Dedham's weekly spraying is scheduled for Wednesdays.

Maps of the spray routes can be found here: https://norfolkcountymosquito.org/service-request/ by clicking "View Map Here" under "Spray Route".

When adult mosquito populations become a serious nuisance or present a health risk, it is too late for larvicide to have any immediate effect. Thus, it is necessary to use adulticide, employing Ultra Low Volume (ULV) spraying applications. The Norfolk County Mosquito Control District uses  Zenivex®, a man-made mimic of the natural plant chemical pyrethrum found in chrysanthemum flowers. The output of ULV applications is approximately 0.65 ounces per acre (8-15 micron droplet size) with an average vehicle speed of 10 miles per hour. Applications occur between sunset and midnight.

In addition to spraying our Mosquito Control District conducts other activities to manage mosquito populations, including:

  • Weekly mosquito sampling between June - October
  • Waterway management to eliminate stagnant water conditions conducive to larval mosquito development
  • Catch basin treatment
  • Tire removal

State Regulation 333 CMR:13:03  provides a method for homeowners to exclude their property from public area-wide pesticide applications. Requests are allowed at any time of year and expire at the end of each calendar year.  The requests will be directly made through an online form (see link below) at the Department of Agricultural Resources (DAR) and simultaneously be forwarded to Mosquito Control Districts. Please note it may take up to 14 days to process the request.
