Norfolk DA Statement - Dedham Shooting

Please read the following statement issued by the Norfolk County District Attorney's Office regarding an early morning shooting in Dedham (issued today at 5:00 PM):

The victim of the fatal shooting early this morning in the parking lot of 688 Providence Highway is identified as 20-year-old Jaylani Cole of Brockton, Norfolk District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey and Dedham Police Chief Michael d’Entremont said.

Cole was found suffering from gunshot wounds shortly after 3:30 a.m. after Dedham police received multiple 911 calls. He was later pronounced deceased at an area hospital.

Another shooting victim, a 20-year-old man, underwent surgery at an area hospital and is expected to recover from his injuries.

The business was closed at the time of the incident and no arrests have been made.

“This is still an active and ongoing investigation. It is always a tragedy when a young life is taken. Our sympathies go out to Jaylani’s family and friends,” District Attorney Morrissey said.

The investigation is being conducted by Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the Norfolk District Attorney’s Office, Dedham Police and the Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene Services Section.

They are being assisted by the Massachusetts State Police Firearms Identification Section and the Massachusetts State Police Crime Laboratory.

Please read the following statement issued by the Norfolk County District Attorney's Office regarding an early morning shooting in Dedham (issued today at 8:15 AM):

Massachusetts State Police Detectives and Dedham Police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred at the BJ’s parking lot on Route 1 early this morning, Norfolk District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey and Dedham Police Chief Michael d’Entremont said. 

Dedham Police and Fire departments were dispatched to the parking lot shortly after 3:30 a.m. after receiving multiple 911 calls. 

The initial investigation revealed two individuals suffered gunshot wounds. One individual later was pronounced deceased at an area hospital and the other is still being treated. 

This is an active and ongoing investigation by Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Norfolk District Attorney’s Office, Dedham Police and the Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene Services Section.
