Assessors in the Community
Our staff are currently conducting property inspections throughout town. You may see them near your property—they will always carry ID and will try to speak with homeowners before completing exterior inspections. Please don't hesitate to ask questions; we're here to help.
The Assessing Department is responsible for the administration of a wide range of state laws pertaining to taxation and are responsible for performing the following duties:
- Assess the value of all real estate and personal property in Dedham.
- Oversee excise tax on motor vehicles, boats, and trailers.
- Process applications for tax exemptions for the elderly, disabled veterans, widows and widowers, and blind or visually impaired citizens.
Board and Committee Work
This Assessors Department works with the Board of Assessors. The board oversees the annual valuation of real estate and personal property within Dedham for taxation purposes.
