In December 2010, the Town of Dedham earned the designation of "Green Community" by the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources (DOER). Once designated by the DOER, a Green Community can apply for grants from the State that help the community implement energy conservation measures to help reduces energy costs and usage. As of 2025, Dedham is one of 297 communities across the Commonwealth that has earned this designation.
