The Massachusetts Attorney General has reached multi-billion-dollar resolutions with opioid producers and distributors that aim to address the opioid crisis by providing funds for prevention, treatment, and recovery. The Town of Dedham will receive funds from these settlements over the next decade and a half.

Use of the Funds

The State lists the following strategies as appropriate use of funds:

  1. Opioid Use Disorder treatment access
  2. Support people in treatment and recovery
  3. Connections to care
  4. Harm reduction
  5. Address the needs of criminal-justice-involved persons
  6. Support pregnant or parenting individuals and their families, including babies with neonatal abstinence syndrome
  7. Prevent misuse of opioids and implement prevention education

The Town of Dedham created an Opioid Abatement Task Force during the summer of 2024 comprised of Town officials to lead efforts in allocating funding. The Opioid Abatement Task Force is made up of Town Officials including the Police Chief, Fire Chief, Town Management, Health Department representatives, School Department representatives, and Dedham Youth Commission, and the Dedham Housing Authority. Questions can be directed to OpioidFunds@dedhamma.gov.
