Before Town Meeting
- We ask that members plan on arriving at 6:15 to allow for efficient check-in and to ease the flow into the building. Members and guests must enter through the open doors located at the southwest entrance to the tennis courts (as shown on aerial map above under "Meeting Details".
- Accessible parking spaces will be available along the southwest side of the building near the entrance to the tennis courts. General parking is available in front of Dick's Sporting Goods Store, labeled at "P1" in the map above. Dedham Police Officers will be onsite to help direct traffic, and additional volunteers will be located within the parking areas to provide additional assistance and direction.
- Town Meeting Members are asked to check in with the Town Clerk and his team at the tables located outside of the building. Once you have checked in, you will then enter the tennis courts and proceed to your seat. Please do not move the chairs; they are set for 6 feet of social distancing. We will not be using lanyards. If you arrive late to the meeting, please visit the tables outside the entrance to the tennis courts to check-in and receive your nametag.
- All attendees are directed to wear a mask or face covering, regardless of vaccination status. Those unable or unwilling to wear a mask or face covering will be seated in a separate area.
- Please feel free to bring your Warrant Book, writing materials, smart phone or tablet, and water. Water will not be provided at this meeting. No other liquids, including coffee/tea, or food items are allowed on the tennis courts.
- The owner of the DHAC has put very few restrictions on us, but has asked that all attendees do not wear shoes with black soles or high heels in order to protect the surface of the tennis courts.
- Please do not gather in groups waiting for the meeting to begin. Social distancing must be maintained during this indoor event, per Covid-19 protocols.
- The Town Meeting will be held in person. There is not an option to participate virtually for this Meeting, but the Meeting will be shown live on Dedham Cable TV and will be livestreamed on www.dedhamtv.com.
During Town Meeting
- The Town Moderator will open the meeting after a quorum is recorded, salute the flag, and begin business.
- The 2021 Fall Annual Town Meeting Warrant contains 22 Articles. The Warrant Review Meeting, also known as “Mini Town Meeting”, was held on Monday, November 8, 2021 via Zoom. The recording of this meeting is available for review at www.dedhamtv.com.
- Those wishing to speak are asked to stand and ask to be recognized, per usual procedures. Staff and volunteers will be watching for those who want to speak and will be on the tennis courts to assist.
- When you are recognized, a microphone will be brought to you. The microphone will be on an extended pole. Please do not touch the microphone. It will be cleaned after each speaker.
- When a voice vote is called for, please call out “Yea” or “Nay” for the Moderator to judge the vote. As always, 7 members may call for a standing vote and 15 may call for a roll call vote.
- Any member wishing to present a document must submit it to Town Hall by 12:00 on Friday, November 12, 2021. It will be entered onto the Town website and members can access the document on their mobile devices while on the field.
- Fallon Ambulance personnel will be onsite for those not feeling well during the meeting.
After Town Meeting
- For the safety of all in attendance, everyone will be directed to exit the tennis courts by section after Town Meeting has officially ended. Please do not gather in crowds and proceed to the exit.
- Upon completion by the Town Clerk’s Office, Town Meeting records will be posted on the Town website.
WHEN IS FALL ANNUAL TOWN MEETING?
Town Meeting will be held on Monday, November 15, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. Please plan to arrive 15-30 minutes early. The Meeting will start when a quorum is recorded by the Moderator.
WHERE WILL TOWN MEETING BE HELD?
Town Meeting will be held at the Dedham Health and Athletic Complex (DHAC), located at 200 Providence Highway, Dedham, MA, inside the tennis courts.
WHERE DO I PARK?
Public parking spaces are available in the following locations:
- Accessible Parking Spaces: Along the southwest side of the building, adjacent to the entrance to the tennis courts
- Other Public Parking: General parking is available in the parking lot in front of Dick's Sporting Goods, labeled as "P1" in the map above. Elected Officials and Department Heads should park in "P2", north of the DHAC building.
*Dedham Police Officers and Town Meeting volunteers will be outside in the parking lots to assist with traffic and parking.
WHERE DO I GO WHEN I ARRIVE?
When you arrive at the DHAC, please follow the sidewalks and signage to enter the building:
- Entrance/Exit: All attendees will follow the signs to the check-in tables located outside of the entrance to the DHAC tennis courts. Entrance to the tennis courts is only permitted through the southwest entrance as indicated on the map above.
- Town Meeting Representatives Seating Area: For Town Meeting Representatives, there will be an area for Fully Vaccinated Members Seating and another General Seating Area. Members who are fully vaccinated may sit in either the Fully Vaccinated Members Area or in the General Seating Area. Members who are not fully vaccinated must sit in the General Seating Area.
- Public Seating Area: There will also be a Fully Vaccinated Area and a General Seating Area for members of the general public. Members of the general public who are fully vaccinated may sit in either the Fully Vaccinated Area or in the General Seating Area.
WILL THERE BE SOMEONE TO HELP ME FIND MY SEAT OR GET AROUND THE ROOM, IF NEEDED?
Yes, staff and volunteers will be onsite to assist with making sure all Town Meeting Representatives find a seat in the voting section.
Please follow social distancing protocols and maintain a distance of at least 6 feet from others in attendance at Town Meeting.
WHAT SHOULD I BRING WITH ME?
The following items are recommended to bring with you to Town Meeting:
- Mask/Face Covering: All attendees are directed to wear a mask or face covering at this meeting. Those who cannot or will not wear a mask or face covering will be seated in a separate area.
- Warrant Book: Printed Warrant Books were mailed to all Town Meeting Representatives. A copy of the Warrant Books with the Finance and Warrant Committee recommendations on which Town Meeting members will be voting is available for review and download on the Town website at www.dedham-ma.gov/TM, and is linked on the homepage.
- Water, if desired: Water will not be provided during this meeting. No other drinks and no food are permitted within the tennis courts.
CAN I WATCH TOWN MEETING ON TV?
Yes, Dedham TV will broadcast Town Meeting live on the Government Channel and it will be livestreamed on www.dedhamtv.com.

Town Meeting has 273 representative members elected to terms of 1-3 years during the annual Town elections, which are held on the second Saturday of April. Town Meeting members meet, deliberate, act, and vote in the exercise of the corporate powers of the Town during spring, fall, and special Town Meetings.

Dedham is incorporated as a Town in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and governed by a legislative branch called Town Meeting. and an executive branch headed by the Board of Selectmen Town meeting is representative, with residents elected from the Town's seven precincts. Its powers and responsibilities are defined by Town Charter Article II. Representative Town Meeting.
Town Meeting is conducted with the help of the Select Board, Town Clerk, Town Manager, and Town Moderator.
