Final Local Road Safety Plan (December 2024)
We are proud to present Dedham's Local Road Safety Plan! This essential guide has been developed to help direct the Town's efforts to improve overall safety for all road users, including but not limited to pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers throughout Dedham. Please review the Plan using the flipbook below, or click on the download icon (cloud with down arrow) to save a copy to your computer or mobile device.
About the Working Group
Following a series of local motor vehicle crashes in 2022, some resulting in fatalities, the Select Board created a Transportation Safety Working Group (TSWG) to identify the causes(s) of these accidents and to develop a comprehensive Local Road Safety Plan (LRSP) that could be used as a framework for prioritizing safety for all road users.
Funded through a federal grant for more than $200,000 from the United States Department of Transportation, the LRSP will be created with the support of the consultant firm, Bowman, who will assist in analyzing data, identifying potential risk factors at past crash locations, supporting public outreach and engagement activities, and helping the Town to proactively develop a toolkit for future projects that are reflective of the Select Board's commitment to safety.
Please continue reading below for the Mission, Vision, and Goals of the TSWG by clicking on each title to expand/collapse the content.
The Transportation Safety Working Group has officially dissolved following the Select Board's formal adoption of the Local Road Safety Plan. If you have any questions about the work carried out by the TSWG, please reach out to the Engineering Department.

Questions or Comments for the Project Team?
Please feel free to submit your written feedback and questions to Director of Engineering Jason Mammone at jmammone@dedham-ma.gov or give us a call at 781-751-9350.
Community Engagement
Throughout the development of the Local Road Safety Plan, the Transportation Safety Working Group, Town staff, and team of consultants hosted a number of open houses (both in-person and virtual) and launched two tools to hear from residents and visitors what it is like travelling on Dedham roads.
Road Safety Survey
The survey is now closed. Please stay tuned for future meetings to share survey results and next steps.
Using input already collected through the comment map previously launched earlier this year (linked at the bottom of this page) and analyzing available crash and safety data, the TSWG and Bowman have developed this short survey to better understand your primary safety concerns across Dedham. This survey is designed to help the project team understand the types of solutions you would like to see implemented to address these concerns.
The survey was designed to take less than 5 minutes to complete and was made available through the following options:
- Online: bit.ly/RoadSafety_Survey (case-sensitive)
- Paper Survey: Copies at Town buildings (including Town Hall, Ames Senior Center, Libraries)
- Phone: Record your feedback and solutions by calling 781-426-0900 and leave a voicemail for the team
The survey was open through April 2024 and was helpful to the Town to develop a Local Road Safety Plan that helps the Town achieve its vision for zero traffic-related fatalities. Questions? Contact Jason Mammone at jmammone@dedham-ma.gov
